Camera Modes

While this is pretty basic information for many readers I hope it will be helpful for those right at the beginning of their digital photography

A/AV (aperture-priority auto)

Night Portrait
Combines flash with a slow shutter speeds, but fixes other settings
Macro
Sets a wide aperture to blur backgrounds
Sport
Sets a fast shutter speed to freeze action
Flash Off / Auto Flash Off
Fully automatic mode that ensures flash does not fire
Portrait
Sets a fast shutter speed but overrides other settings
Landscape
Set aperture to maximize depth of field and the built in flash is switched off
Full Automatic /Auto
Sets all camera settings automatically
CA/Creative Auto
Same as full auto, with a little more control over focus, exposure and color.
A-DEP/Automatic Depth of Field
Camera selects the f-stop needed to keep all objects in the frame in the zone of sharp focus and then selects the shutter speed that will produce a good exposure. Full control over most (but not all) color, flash and other advanced settings 
Movie
Enables recording of digital movies
